As an elementary school play therapist in a rural school setting, the role of therapist has evolved fromthe solely being an office setting to placement within the school system. This speaks to what Scott andWolfe (2015, p. 2) states, “to strengthen the capacity of communities to meet the needs of constituentsand help them to realize their dreams in order to promote well-being, social justice, economic equalityand self-determination through systems, organizations and or individual change.”This “change to meet the needs” speaks to the heart of how, as therapist one can assist multiplepopulations, not just those brought to an office. This new venture allows multiple educated adults have astake in the child’s care. So many of the children would go underserved if the school did not have such aprogram. As described by Scott and Wolfe (2015), the evolving of the world view of community psychology canintegrate what is learned in the academic level and what is provided at the community level. This can befacilitated by improving the lack of competencies acquired from the past leading to improving what maybe provided now, both in an academic setting and extrapolated into clinical practice, (p.3).
