One Nasty War On February 1, 1781 Banastre Tarleton’s Dragoons and Loyalists charged an undermanned force of North Carolina militia at Tarrant’s Tavern, hacking them to death with sabers.

Lighthorse Harry’s Revenge On February 25, the Patriots had there revenge. North Carolina Loyalists were tricked into believing that they were being reviewed by Tarleton when they actually had encountered Lt. Col. Lee whose Continental Legion wore green jackets as did Tarleton’s men. Lee ordered a saber attack and butchered the Loyalists.

War Gets Nastier On June 4, 1781 A surprise raid by Tarleton at Charlottesville, Virginia, capturing seven members of the Virginia legislature. Governor Thomas Jefferson barely escaped. On July 17, the British burned Georgetown, South Carolina. On August 4, the British hanged Col. Isaac Hayne in Charleston as a warning to patriots. It had the opposite effect.
