REAGAN DOCTRINE2The Reagan Doctrine stated as "We must not break faith with those who are risking their lives on every continent from Afghanistan to Nicaragua to defy Soviet-supported aggression and secure rights which have been ours from birth . . . Support for freedom fighters is self-defense." Consequently, the Reagan doctrine was launched by President Ronald Reagan to overt the unashamed American Support for the revolution against the Communist Union (Krauthammer, 1985). Additionally, the major events that led to the formation of the doctrine include quest for justice and democracy. The revolution was intended to end the tyranny rule which undermined the people’s basic rights. In this scenario, the doctrine depicted that if the freedom fighters could have been defeated, then their countries will be lost behind the iron curtain of the Soviet Union. Moreover, the global events thatled to the formation of the doctrine include the liberation wars that were undergoing globally, in different parts of the world. The wars include the revolutions in Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Angola, Ethiopia, Nicaragua and Cambodia. The doctrine was formed to offer support to this revolutionaries toachieve the freedom and democracy which they were fighting for (Krauthammer, 1985).
