Written Case Analysis 42Secondhand smoking causes more harm than what people think. Since 1964, over 2.5 million adults who were nonsmokers died because of secondhand smoking. The smoke breathed out from smokers holds over seven thousand chemicals; hundreds of those are toxic and roughly seventy can cause cancer. When children become exposed, they are seven times more likely to become vulnerable to the health risks associated with secondhand smoking such as: respiratory infections, ear infections, asthma attacks, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). In this particular scenario, when the woman smokes around her five-year-old son she is violating so many moral principles. Such violations can include deliberately killing an innocentlife – a person or nation that has not attacked or threatened another – even for the sake of saving others.
