CHEM 13 Chemistry of Life Syllabus Spring 2006 Instructor: Prof. Simpson Joseph Office: Room 4102, Urey Hall Phone: 822-2957 E-mail: sjoseph@chem.ucsd.edu Office Hours: Thursday 2:00 to 5:00 PM (First come/First served) Scope of this course: The objective of this course is to introduce the fundamentals of biochemistry. This course is intended for non-science majors and will give an overview of biological processes. We will cover topics that include nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and general metabolism. Lectures: MWF, 2:00 to 2:50 PM (Room 101, CENTER HALL) Discussion Sections: Teaching Assistants: Sujata Emani (semani@ucsd.edu) Jeffrey Kearns (jkearns@ucsd.edu) Text book: Fundamentals of General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry (Fourth Edition) by McMurry and Castellion (Prentice Hall).
