Hydrogen Automobiles As it became a serious concern in today society of the effects of pollution emitted from vehicles, scientists produced vehicles that only emits water out of its exhaust rather than carbon monoxide and other toxic pollutants. Hydrogen vehicles do not need to function on gasoline or ethanol; they use hydrogen as it main power source. Tabitha Benbrook argues, "We could change the cars so that they use energy more efficiently, and pollute less. This could be done by using hydrogen as a fuel"(2006). Many inventors experiment on these power sources: - 1839: English inventor Sir William Grove o experimented water to be split up into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity - 1859: Ludwig Mond and Charles Langer o attempted to make a fuel cell - 1959: NASA o selected fuel cells as the power generator of choice for its first manned space mission - 1960: Roger E. Billings o first successfully working hydrogen vehicles Hydrogen vehicles have been found in Germany after the Second World War due to Germany’s oil shortage. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
