Linux Workstation and Server3Executive SummaryOur company has assigned me a tasked of looking into three possible companies for the use of Linux for future purpose if considering upgrades to the current network. The companies that were looked into were Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu. The primary focus of this investigation was to compare and contrast each of the companies Linux Workstation and Server. Through my intensive research many thing came to light such as the cost of owning the product, the manageability of it, the performance and reliability, the training required to operate the product, as well as the availability of the application itself. With this research I formed a paper that detailsand talks about the features each company product offers but also talk about the similarity and differences that each one share.

The companies that are going to be looked at are Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu. The features we are going to look into are the capabilities it holds and what it provides; but also the ease-of-use of their product.Linux Workstation/ DesktopRed HatThe company Red Hat provides both a Linux Workstation and Server. The Linux workstation is designed for advanced Linux users and it works on more powerful systems. Some of the tools provided with the workstation is to be able to make provisioning and administration of the Linux Desktop more efficient and cost effective. The workstation is flexible enough so thatit can be tailored so that it meets the needs of the business. And each desktop can be customized so that there can be minimal installation footprint and can remove unwanted applications. Some of the security feature is that it ensures that desktops are secure against external and internal threats. Red Hat provides a layered defense scheme that offers the highest protection against commonly exploited security flaws and uncommon ones.There are many feature provides with Linux Workstation such as having Word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and other Microsoft Office products through the use of LibreOffice. The LibreOffice productivity suite supports the ISO standard for open document format. Linux workstation uses email, calendaring, contact management, and task through evolution, a unified, easy to use application.
