1.0 INTRODUCTION
The ASEAN country that we choose to be our preference is Vietnam. Vietnam is a
country in Southeast Asia that is officially known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It
covers 311,699 square kilometres and is located on the eastern edge of continental
Southeast Asia. Vietnam shares land boundaries with China to the north, Laos and
Cambodia to the west, and the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea with Thailand,
the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Hanoi is the capital, and Ho Chi Minh City is
the largest city. Vietnam's preliminary population count for 2021 was 98.5 million people,
with 226,102 males (52.6%) and 203,897 females (47.4%). Vietnam has five cities with
populations exceeding one million people, the largest of which being Ho Chi Minh City,
which has an estimated population of 8,636,899. With a population of 7,781,631
inhabitants, Ha Noi is a close second. Hai Phong, Da Nang, and Can Tho are the
remaining three cities with significant populations.
Vietnam's top export goods are electrical machinery, footwear, gaiters and clothing
accessories, not knitted and crocheted. Vietnam exports a large quantity of electrical
and electronic machinery to foreign and neighbouring countries accounting for 36% of
exports with a value of 96 billion USD. Following that, Vietnam exports a considerable
quantity of footwear and gaiters, as well as garments and clothing accessories for men
and women of various ages. Nuclear reactors are also shipped and exported to a few
European countries, accounting for 5% of Vietnam's 1.2 billion USD exports. The top 3
countries that Vietnam exports a wide range of items are the United States, China and
Japan due to high demand from manufacturing enterprises. The United States is the
leading exporter, accounting for 23% of total exports worth 61 billion dollars. In terms of
Vietnam's export countries, China and Japan are second and third, respectively.

Vietnam imports a variety of products from its neighbouring countries via the air and
seaways. Electronics and gadgets are heavily imported, accounting for 12.2 percent of
total imports. Petroleum and fine minerals, which are in high demand by industries and
factories, are also imported. Televisions, cameras, video recorders, and other
household electrical gadgets contribute around 3.6 billion dollars in imports. China is the
largest importer in Vietnam, accounting for 29% of total imports worth $75 billion
USD.Other Asian countries, such as Korea and Japan, are also included in the values
of 46 billion and 19.5 billion USD. Vietnam imports 6% of its goods from the United
States, while Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia also ship products to Thailand in bulk
via air and water.
