Claim: According to a U.S. News and World Report study, today there are more than 20,000 tattoo parlors operating in the United States. The popularity of tattoo parlors has increased dramatically during the past 10 years. And there doesn't seem to be any end in sight.

Evidence 1: Today many ordinary people have tattoos and or body piercings. However, many people perceive tattoos and body piercings to be only gang members, prisoners, troublemakers, low lives and bikers.

Evidence 2 : Now, since more and more mainstream people are getting tattoos and piercings. In certain cultures, particular body piercings are a part of their heritage and tradition. In Asian cultures, a nose piercing is considered to be a rite of passage. This piercing is given upon the transition to adulthood for young women, and in some cases is never removed. These traditions remain strong in these cultures and can be seen in practice today. Pacific Island cultures
