311.6.1 and 6.2.Can you do a reflective account on how you use expressive language duringcreative and imaginative experiences with the children in your care?Today I set up an activity to widen the children’s experience with creativity andimaginative play. For the first part of this I got out cotton swabs, PVA glue, a whitepen and black paper. First, I drew around the children’s hands. I asked them if theirhands were small or big. Most of them could reply. Once I finished drawing aroundtheir hands I would say ‘’WOW, look at your hand!’’ This cause the children tobecome excited that their now drawn hand was on their piece of paper. Next Ishowed the children a previous hand that was completed for them to get an idea onwhat they needed to do. The idea was for them to use PVA glue and stick downsome cotton swabs to their hands to make them look like x-rays. Straight away thechild was curious and wanted to try it out for themselves. All throughout the activity Iwould praise the children with expressions such as ‘’well done’’, ‘’ you’re doing sucha great job’’ and ‘’It looks amazing’’. All with a smile on my face. The older childrencould understand this and would give me a smile of acceptance. However, theyounger children had a little difficulty understanding the words I was using. Therefore, I showed happy and excited expressions on my face which they couldregister. Once the x-rays were completed, the child and I would take it to drying rack.I would then say ‘’ all done’’ and give them a high five. Later in the day, once thesewere dry, I hung them all on the wall and created a hospital role play. I set out 3beds, uniforms, x-rays, pretend medicines, spoons and bandages. I said ‘’lookeveryone (whilst pointing) it’s all of your wonderful creations that you made thismorning’’. This captured all of the children’s attention and they came over to where Iwas. The children engaged in play for a long time. I pretended to be the patient andled on one of the beds. I shouted ‘’oh no, I have hurt my hand’’. A little girl came overto see me and curiously said ‘’What happened’’. I told her a story and she soonwanted to help me. The little girl gave me some medicine and a plaster. Then said‘’All better’’. With delight in my voice I said ‘’Thankyou so much Doctor. This hasmade me feel much better and I am now happy’’.
