Measurement of serum or plasma cholesterol is a routine clinical test. The level of cholesterol can be affected by many factors (e.g. stress, age, sex, hormonal balance, and etc). Cholesterol in blood is : - in esterified form (60-70%). - is transported in (associated with) various forms of lipoproteins - major types of cholesterol-carrying lipoproteins: a) high-density lipoprotein (HDL) : transports cholesterol from tissues to liver. Good: inversely related to the predisposition to coronary artery disease. b) low-density and (LDL) : transports cholesterol from liver to tissues. Bad: positively correlated with the development of atherosclerosis. MEASUREMENT of CHOLESTEROL        in  MEASUREMENT of CHOLESTEROL        in  BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES, cont BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES, cont
