If you got the PRC, then, points were given according to how much infomration given about the structure and function of the PRC. If you described another type of protein structure, you did not get ANY points (0 for this page) Points assignments: Naming Answer: PHOTOSYNTHETIC REACTION CENTER 2 pts. Naming L subunit 1 pt. Naming M subunit 1 pt. Naming H subunit 1 pt. For L and M, saying transmembrane subunits / domain / region 1 pt. For L and M, saying alpha helices or just helices 1 pt. For saying D, E helices form hydrophobic core 1 pt. For H, saying intracellular 1 pt. For H, saying 1 transmembrane alpha helix 1 pt. Function (needed to be precise and specific) 6 pts. Naming all pigments 3 pts. (most students got these essentials and got full credit, but if missed anything important, gave points for any of these details about the structure to help increase points for this answer) Lipid bilayer 1 pt. Pigments were in red in center 1 pt. (if only mentioned pigments) For naming some pigments, but not all 2 pts. For only mentioning Fe 1 pt. Cytochrome not present 1 pt. If mentioned only a one sentence function 3 pts. If didn’t mention too much function, but justified answer 1 pt. Located within LH1 1 pt. AT the end of this exam key there are examples of actual answers to this question: two examples of great answers. There were actually many great answers, but picked two to highlight what an answer for full credit sounded like. 70% of the students identified the correct structure. Congrats!!
