2/14/08 Nearly all performers on American Bandstand lip synched To save time, money, effort, energy (didn’t have to bring in band, rehearse, etc.) Once example of LIVE performance: Jerry Lee Lewis (requested to perform  LIVE) Aired Nov 4 th  1957, record charted on the 18 th , went to #2, stayed on charts  for 21 weeks (no one knew the song before this performance) Dick Clark accused of putting on a lot of Philadelphia Artists, including: Chubby Checker, “The Twist,” Sept. 29 th  1960, Charted in August, went to #1  after performance Bobby Rydell, Fabian, Frankie Avalon   regular performers from Philadelphia Cancelled in September of 1987, Dick Clark took it into syndication When it moved to L.A., he started Dick Clark Productions Was and is a true businessman 1972: Started Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve w/ ABC (considered to be  daring television for the early ‘70’s) Always showed Guy Lombardo’s Band bringing in the New Year, catered to
