CJ200- AO Unit 2 Assignment 2 Rachel Ellis 1. What is the purpose of the NCIC and what agency is responsible for it? The FBI is responsible for the NCIC whose sole purpose is to help criminal justice professionals apprehend fugitives, locate missing persons, recover stolen property and identify terrorist. 2. Why would an investigator want to use the NCIC? It gives them access instantly to information such as if a person was wanted in another state, if a vehicle was stolen. 3. What types of access and use constraints are in place? All records in NCIC are protected from unauthorized access through appropriate administrative, physical, and technical safeguards. These safeguards include restricting access to those with a need to know to perform their official duties, and using locks, alarm devices, passwords, and/or encrypting data communications.
