Assignment 4 CRJS 222 Prof. Hoofnagle Due: 2/28/08 Jeremy L. Ocheltree 1. What are the functions of patrol? The main functions of patrol are to provide a sense of safety to the general public and discourage illegal activity in the same process. Being clearly visible to everyone helps control the streets. (Samaha, 187) 2. What are the objectives of patrol? The objectives of patrol are: to keep a constant eye on the street intending to control crime and uphold the expectations of “law-abiding citizens” through displaying themselves uniformly in public. (Samaha, 187) 3. What are the types of preventive patrol? Which is most effective? Why? The three types of patrol are comprised of vehicle, foot, and single-officer patrols. The most effective form of preventive patrol is single-officer patrol because it reduces the cost of patrol, shows fewer cases of officer assault, helps the police force become more involved in the community, while maintaining a steady crime report. 4.
