1. Objective This experiment was undertaken to observe the relationship between current and voltage with changes in resistance, and also to observe how the power produced changes with change in angle of the solar panel. 2. Procedure 2.1 Task One In the first part began with the solar panel at zero degrees and the resistance of the input box was varied and thus varied the intensity of the light hitting the solar panel. Then the angle of the solar panel was changed to thirty degrees and followed the same procedure of changing the resistance, and then again at sixty degrees. Next the solar panel characteristic curve was plotted by plotting voltage as a function of current applied to the solar panel. 2.2 Task Two In this task, the resistance was kept constant and the panel angle was varied by five degree increments and thus the relationship between the angle of the solar panel and the resistance was found. The experiment was then repeated three times; each set of data had its own resistance given to the system while the angle of the solar panel was varied in five degree increments.
3. Results 3.1 Task One: Variables were created from the first three data files using MATLAB (Appendix A). The Voltage and resistance data were used to create current and power variables. Voltage plotted as a function of current (Figure 1) produced characteristic curves of the solar panel at different angles. 3.2 Task Two: Variables were created from the last three data files using MATLAB. Current as well as the cosine of the recorded angles were then generated from those values.
