Anna Knight Period 6 June 1, 2016 Whales Whales are a group of widely diverse aquatic placental marine mammals that live in the ocean. Even though these animals live in the water and go as deep as 6,000 feet, they still breath air. All whales are warm-blooded and nurse their young. But, there are two types of whales that live today; toothed whales and baleen whales. Toothed whales eat fish, squid, and other marine mammals, but baleen whales are larger, but are filter feeders and use their baleen to sieve food. Even though these whales eat different things, they both travel all around the world. In fact, whales are very active and love to jump and breach out of the water, and even slap the water’s surface with their tails. Whales slapping their tales against the surface is thought to be a warning of danger near by, and that is just one way whales communicate. But, typically, whales use lyrical sounds that are extremely loud and can be heard for miles to communicate. Whales come in
