Unformatted text preview: Neurosensory Alteration The different ways you receive sensation affect the way you socialize and understand the environment The factors that affect sensory perception:- Adequate blood flow : 1 ST THING AFFECTED!!!- Nutrition/metabolism- Fluids and electrolytes- Sleep/Rest- Drugs/polypharmacy- Stress/Unfamiliar surroundings- Environmental stimuli Airway, breathing, circulation: dehydration Interventions for Visual Alterations-- Minimize - glare- Corrective lenses- Pocket magnifier- Large print- Use red/orange- Avoid blue/violet, green- Mark edges of stairs- Avoid clutter/throw rugs- Look at client while speaking- Use a normal tone- Orient to the environment (clock)- Inform client when you are entering or leaving the room- Ask for permission to touch the client- Use other senses Auditory deficts/causes- Hearing loss related to loud noises- Rt tissue damage secondary to repeated infections or toxic effects of ototoxic medications Interventions for Auditory Alterations:- Check for impacted cerumen- Amplify- Lower tone...
