Immortality, idea that soul survives. Soul is a kind of entity that lives without body Are we the same people from one time to another? Through all changes of growing, etc there is something that stays as “us” Reincarnation – body goes through a cycle of births and deaths Appears most Pythagoreans were based on the idea of reincarnations, eternal life Emphasis on experiences remembered from past lives This as to do with the souls encounter with the forms – How do they know this? Dreams? Not case that this is an endless cycle – has some final resolution Striving for best possible afterlife, smallest number of stages in this world, progress through cycle to some final state Said that the key to the end of the cycle is to choose the life of a philosopher three
