Comm 1 Mullin 2/14/08 Small Group Communication Read chapter 12 Extra Credit Opportunity – 1 point extra credit, email multiple movies study professor Mid-term – 43 questions = 86 points, medium score 78% Final – cumulative, first 15 come from pre-midterm (mostly lecture material and things we have talked about a lot), rest are post Types of Small group Intimate/social group o Primary group (e.g. family) – primary in raising you Shape who you are, shape psychological and social identity Family negotiation, decision making, etc make it small group Also peer groups, clubs, etc – more studies in education rather then communication, this is because of peer pressure, bullying, cliques, etc Task-oriented – specific task, something group has to accomplish o Formal decision-making groups (e.g. juries) o Problem-solving/discussion (e.g. committees) Discuss how to deal with a particular issue o Education/Therapy – official leader (i.e. TA) Help you learn different theories/support, weight-less, etc
