Free writing – 1/20/08 Kimberly Rauch Prompt #1 – As you can tell from scientific studies cited in the book, the idea Gladwell presents are not new. Why then is Blink a best seller now? In your analysis, consider both the ideas and the way he presents them. Throughout Malcolm Gladwell’s book, Blink, he uses scientific studies to enhance the point he is trying to make. The studies he uses further informs the reader of his ideas and how they have been used in previous real life studies. We see how prominent his idea of thin-slicing and snap judgments is through these experiments. He uses different studies and even interviews with people who have experienced a snap judgment moment. Gladwell uses studies that had been done in previous years and his book about these studies became a best seller. When looking at studies and analyzing why Gladwell’s book is a best seller and the studies he uses are not, we must dig into the scientific research used.
