Jennifer Young Jon Young ENG 3010. 05 Balding April 9, 2008 Literary Elements 2.) Characterization Major Characters: Neddy Leary, Dolly Leary, Bridgeen Leary. Minor Characters: boy, boy’s mother, Dinny Coleman. Protagonist: Neddy Leary Antagonist: Bridgeen and Dolly Leary 3.) Point of View First Person: Told from the point of view of the boy. We know what he knows and see what he sees. 4.) Conflict Man V. Society: The conflict is between all three of the Leary’s. It started with conflict between Dolly and Bridgeen over who was the woman of the house. Neddy is drug into their argument and eventually all three are pitted against each other. 5.) Foreshadowing First sentence Dinny Colman says “I was present the day the first shot was fired.” It foreshadows conflict. 6.) Irony n/a 7.) Tone/Mood Tone: Humorous.
