MCP is methylated at a constant rate and methylation decreases sensitivity B. CheB demethylates but is only active when phosphorylated by CheA-P 1. MCP binds repellant 2. CheA kinase activity is increased 3. More CheA-P in the cell 4. CheA-P gives P to Che-Y 5. More CheY-P in the cell 6. CheY-P causes cw rotation 7. CheZ removes P Pili -thin surface structure -made from pilin -Function: conjugation, binding to surfaces(can have adhesions), movement via retraction (twitching) -Assembly: from the inside subunits are secreted and assembled at the base Capsule -sticky later on outside -usually made of polysaccharides -Functions: stick to surfaces, avoid the immune system (not easily recognized by Abs and Abs cannot easily bind to the bacterium) Intracellular Structures 1. Carbon Storage Granule= most common structure
