Case Brief #2 Case Citation : Joseph Oncale V. Sundowner Offshore Services, United States Supreme Court, 118 S. Ct. 998 (1998) Facts : Plaintiff, Joseph Oncale, brought a Title VII action against Sundowner Offshore Services, and against male supervisors and coworkers, alleging sexual harassment. Title VII is the part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that is the most common basis for lawsuits premised on discrimination because it covers a broader area of potential claimants than any other statues. The plaintiff claims that he was “forcibly subjected to sex-related, humiliating actions against him by his co workers and the company did nothing to stop this harassment. The defendants, Sundowner Offshore services, and male supervisors and coworkers, were trying to dismiss the allegations on the basis that since it was male to male it did not constitute a form of sexual harassment and allowing Title VII to allow same sex protection would make it into a general civil code.
