Iron Curtain speech -Churchill gave the speech at Westminster College, in Fulton, Missouri on March 5, 1946. His speech started with stating he admires the Russians and has no ill feelings towards his old comrade Stalin. But he heeds to the idea that an iron curtain has fallen over Europe. Churchill stated that "he does not believe that Soviet Russia desires war. What they desire is the fruits of war and the indefinite expansion of their power and doctrines." From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an iron curtain has divided the continent. He ask the US to help stop communist expansion not only in area but around the world in order to create a free world, ruled only by themselves. Truman Doctrine -On March 12, 1947 President Truman made is proclamation. Stated that US would give military and economic aid to Countries, then current Greece and Turkey from falling into Soviet Control. Truman was attempting to solve Eastern Europe's instability; while also, making sure that the spread of Communism would not affect nations unwillingly. CIA -Formed July 26, 1947. The National Security act of 1947 established the CIA. In 1948 the CIA was granted the authority to carry out covert operations against hostile foreign states or groups or in support of friendly states and groups, all in secrecy besides authorized personal. Today its primary function is collecting and analyzing information about foreign governments, corporations, and persons in order to advise public policymakers. Most all information about employees, salaries, operations, funds, etc. are disclosed. NSC( National Security Council) - Created July 26, 1947 by the National Security Act. Since its inception under President Harry S. Truman, the function of the Council has been to advise and assist the President on national security and foreign policies. The Council also serves as the President's principal arm for coordinating these policies among various government agencies. The NSC is the principle forum used by the President for considering national security and foreign matters with his senior national security advisors and cabinet officials and is part of the Executive Office.
