GEOLOGY 303, QUIZ 1 Fall, 2007 Time : for the TTh lecture section, during the lecture hour on Tuesday, October 2. For the MW lecture section, during the lecture hour on Wednesday, October 3. Place : Geology Building (GB) 2.324 (the regular lecture room) Review session : Drs. Cooke and Long will lead a review session in GB 2.324 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 1. Attendance is VOLUNTARY. Contents : Material will be taken both from the first 9 lectures (Thursday, August 30 through Thursday, September 27 inclusive for the TTh lecture section or Wednesday, August 29 through Monday, October 1 inclusive for the MW lecture section), and from textbook Chapters 1-3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and Chapter 12 through page 214 inclusive. Specifically: Origin of the solar system (Chap. 1 and 2): 1 (brief) lecture Minerals (Chap. 3): 2 lectures Igneous rocks (Chap. 5): 1 lecture Weathering, clastic and chemical sedimentary rocks (Chap. 7): 1 lecture Metamorphic rocks (Chap. 9): 1 lecture Radioactivity, isotopic ages, early earth history (Chap. 11): 2 lectures Origin of life (Chap 12): 1 lecture Most of the questions will be from lecture material, but the book reinforces the concepts presented in lecture. Not more than one or two questions will be taken from the text concerning subjects not
