Thomas D. LancasterDr. Jill Fiore LITR22128 May, 2016In Mark Twain’s “The Damned Human Race” he explains the reason why humans have devolved into a lesser-species based on our actions. He attempts to point our logically and scientifically the reasons why the rest of the animal kingdom is more evolved than we are. He explains that many of actions that we extol are contradictory to the betterment our species and world. Humans are destructive to both themselves and the planet. They alone wage war and suffer from: greed, avarice, hate, religion and worst of all disregard. All things unknown or practiced by animals. Humans alone have the capacity for higher thinking and emotions such as compassion, comradery, love, hate, superior intellect and self-awareness. It is through these abilities that we place ourselves at the top of the animal kingdom. In Mark Twain’s “The Damned Human Race”, humans believe that due to their self-consciousness they are superior in intellectual to animals. However superior they believe they are "simple truths" are apparent in the rest of the animal kingdom. Through their own distinction, devising and definition, humans have created levels thatlead to disparity amongst themselves and to discriminatory ideas, such as slavery. Humans are
