In order to understand Toyota’s specific threats to their business plan, you first must understand the definition of a threat. A threat is an external condition that can hinder the ability of achieving a company’s business plan. A few examples of external conditions would be a competitive company, changes in the marketplace, changes in technology, changes in legislation that would affect the business, and economic conditions. Since being an automobile company, Toyota faces threats on a constant basis. One of the most obvious threats to Toyota is competing automobile companies. Specifically, Toyota is under competitive pressure from companies such as Ford, General Motors, and Honda. While these are their closest competitors in terms of sales, Hyundai is the closest automobile company in regards to similarity to Toyota. The way Hyundai produces their automobiles is a much more cost effective method, sometimes saving up to three-thousand dollars less for a comparable vehicle between companies.
