ENGS MIDTERM Nanotechnology: applying surgery to the atomic level Genetic engineering: reformatting human genome to enhance form and function Katona Main ways to obtain an infectious disease: poor sanitation, over crowding, contact with animals How to effectively deal with outbreaks of infectious disease: isolate disease (quarentine), treat it, stop spread of panic (avoid media, etc. b/c panic only wastes resources) Rosen Form and function o Idea that you are either giving the patient something they need thus enhancing function or removing/ altering something that doesn’t function Missing Parts o Human machine interphase: human and machine working together, ex.) prosthetic arm o Telesurgery: precise surgery by robots to eliminate shaking hands of doctors and scales motion. Doctors would control surgery by remote. Doctor could be in China but operating on a patient in US. This is also very minimally invasive b/c of endoscopy Stava Using virtual reality to enhance medicine in battle o Ex.) dog tags on soldiers w/ 3-D body scan
