1940s - Keith Rowe born March 16, 1940 in Plymouth, England 1950s - Art School - Begins playing guitar - Was frustrated, because he felt like he was discovering who he was in painting class, but when he played guitar he realized he was just copying the style of other guitarists rather than finding his own style. - Spent hours listening to Charlie Christian, Barney Kessel, and Wes Montgomery – could imitate them but felt like he was not making music that was uniquely his (late ‘50s, early ‘50s) 1960s - 1965: AMM is formed in London, England. Members are Lou Gare (saxophone), Eddie Prévost (drums). Began just as a weekend experimental workshop session at the Royal College of Art in London. Rowe, Gare, and Prévost were the three core members but others were welcome to sit in. - 1966: Lawrence Sheaff (cello and accordion) and Cornelius Cardew (piano and cello) were added to the lineup and began calling themselves AMM. -
