Maya Lim found her life upside down when a leak, followed by an explosion, effectively destroyed her premises which were part of a shopping centre. Maya was ill prepared for such a disaster. She, along all the other people in the business was one of a number of firms that never recovered. Part of the problem was that her business had not been doing particularly well financially. She had an agreed overdraft limit of $8000 with her bank and on the day of the explosion, she was overdrawn on her bank account by $7854. She had also $10450 of outstanding trade credit, much of it already overdue to her suppliers from the run up to the previous Christmas which had seen very disappointing sales. In the aftermath of the explosion, Maya, along with other retailers in the centre were unable to visit the premises for a number of days. She didn't know what she was going to find, but it was worse than she imagined. Her entire stock was so damaged that none of it was saleable and fixtures and fittings were not worth salvaging.
