DWC Team C Exam 3 (Tuesday, 11/13/07) Study Guide: The exam will consist of two parts: 10 id’s worth a total of 40 points (like the first exam) and one essay worth 60 points. You will probably have about 12 id’s from which to select; I don’t know yet how many essay questions will appear on the test. The essay possibilities are as follows (although the final version may be slightly different): 1. In our recent course readings and lectures we have seen three very different general approaches to ethics: Aristotelian virtue (arête); Christian conduct (“Sermon on the Plain” in Luke 6); and Roman pietas (as encouraged by Augustus in his actions and character). Give a brief account of each of these, emphasizing the ways in which they differ from one another, and include at least one reference to a relevant text for each. Which of the three, in your opinion, best serves us today as a source of moral guidance in our contemporary world? 2. Both
