Matthew Taylor October 19, 2003 Dr. Ledbetter Ethics and Society What Is “Ethics”? Ethics is the systematic reflection on the things we do. Many things lead to the decisions we make in life and these decisions can either be good or bad just depending on our morals. The individual, society, right from wrong, experiences, and power determine how we make these decisions and reflects what kind of life we would like to live. Being an individual is being able to do things you think are right without being concerned whether or not others are judging you. You should be able to be who you are without other influencing you to be somebody your not. Karl was an individual who did not think of himself all the time. He was the type of person who thought of others first and only wanted the best for the people he cared about. I believe that Karl was an individual who people misunderstood. He may have been creepy looking but his looks were deceiving. Deep down Karl was a good man and wouldn’t hurt anybody unless he thought that person needed to be taught a lesson, for example, killing Doyle for treating Mrs. Wheatley and Frank with no respect. He knew if he did not do something about it, then they would be in danger. He was an individual who did not get the chance to live life to the fullest because of decisions he made at an early age in life.
