Meredith Butkovich LEGL 1101 Dr. White September 24, 2003 Lawyers When I was a senior in high school I participated in the Bay County Teen Court program. It was a program that helped high school students in their junior and senior year learn how the legal system worked and functioned. The teens themselves played the roles of the judge, defense attorney, probation officer, bailiff, and prosecutor. The cases that were heard were form juveniles who were first time offenders. The juveniles were sent to court and prosecuted by their own peers. Working for the teen court I realized that I would someday like to be a lawyer and defend a client in hopes of winning their case. Lawyers can serve as an advocate to society and also an advisor in society. They work as an advocate when they represent a party in a criminal or civic trial by presenting evidence and arguing in court to support their client. As an advisor, lawyers counsel their client concerning legal rights, obligations, and suggest certain parts of action in business and individual matters. The majority of lawyers are usually found in private practices where they concentrate mainly on
