Surgical Procedure Surgical Procedure Cardioplegia is the intentional and temporary cessation of cardiac activity. Patient exposed to mild hypothermia (32-34 °C) Infusing cold Potassium chloride solution into the coronary circulation Hemodilution Viscosity of Blood is decreased to ensure O 2 is adequately delivered to body tissues during bypass Hematocrit level is reduced to 22% from normal levels (42%) (proportion of blood volume occupied by Red Blood Cells) Prevents coagulation of red blood cells and provides better circulation of blood at capillary level
