Biventricular Pacing – Glossary Biventricular Pacing Defined ICD : Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. Cardioversion : Conversion of one cardiac rhythm or electrical pattern to another (from abnormal to normal). Biventricular Pacemaker vs. Standard Pacemaker Arrhythmias : Abnormal heart rhythms; the heartbeats may be too slow, too rapid, irregular, or too early. Bradycardia : A slowness of the heart beat, as evidenced by slowing of the pulse rate to less than 60 bpm. AVI: Atrioventricular interval – The period of time between the onset of a P wave and the onset of a subsequent QRS complex (either paced or intrinsically conducted). Artificial Pacemaker Modes: DDD = D ual paced, D ual sensed, D ual mode (triggered & inhibited). VDD = V entricle paced, D ual sensed, D ual mode. DDD(R) = DDD + R ate modulation. Cardiac Conditions Treated by BVP Dilated Cardiomyopathy: Group of disorders where the heart muscle is weakened and cannot pump effectively. Ventricular Arrhythmias:
