1. Epithelial tissue is one of the four tissue types of the human body. a. Various functions of Epithelial tissue are sensory reception, protection, filtration and excretion, secretion, and absorption. There are eight different types of shapes and structures of epithelial tissue. Six seem to be based on the shape and number of cells and 2 seem to be based on the type of cell. They are simple squamous epithelium, simple cuboidal epithelium, simple columnar epithelium, pseudostratified columnar epithelium, stratified squamous epithelium, stratified cuboidal epithelium, stratified columnar epithelium, and transitional epithelium. Epithelium is a kind of interface tissue which nearly everything must pass through at some point. A good example of this is the air sacs in the lungs which use simple squamous epithelium to filter and secrete lubricating substance. b. The bane of teenagers as well as some adult’s existence is acne vulgaris. This occurs when pores or hair follicles become clogged with dead skin cells and oil.
