Civil war marked our nation and set the tone for our new nation. During those times, people believed that the war was caused because of slavery. We can see throughout history that itwas way passed the fact of slavery. The Civil war was a turning point in our nation’s history where we were defined as to who we were going to be and what we would become, both the good and the bad. (Foote, Shelby)When slavery first came about in the thirteen colonies, it began to spread out slowly. Within the thirteen colonies during the American Revolution times, it was counted that slavery did not pass ten percent of five hundred thousand slaves within the colonies. During this time, the state with the greatest amount of slaves was New York with twenty thousand slaves. The stateof New Jersey had about twelve thousand slaves as well. Most of the slaves at that time resided in the southern colonies. Right after the start of theRevolution, slavery went up in demand and the population doubled within a lapse of one year.
