Meaning 1. Kessler uses the phrase for others to fill in the thoughts. People usually fill in the blank with typical things, rather than her explaining the atypical events that embarrass her. It bothers her because she believes that it is deceptive to not explain. To her it is like lying. 2. The symbol of generic rhetoric is a phrase that is used to explain the typical rather than repeat what is typical. It can be blah blah blah or yadda yadda or any phrase that expresses something known, and repetitive. It means a phrase for basic general language. This “symbol of generic rhetoric” is a base on half of Kessler’s main point because the phrase blah blah blah is used a lot in oral language now to refer to a repeated event. The rest of the main point is how and why it is used. 3. Trite (4) Looking at the word in the context of the essay I think that it means long and drawn out as in the fact that you have to explain so much and it really was already heard before. According to dictionary.com trite means “lacking in freshness or effectiveness because of constant use or excessive repetition.” My
