Lab Exam 2 : week of 10/23 Half of the exam will be on igneous rocks and half on sedimentary rocks. The igneous and sedimentary rocks will be separated (so you’ll know whether your sample is igneous or sedimentary). You will be provided glass plates and hand lenses to use during the exam. You will NOT be given acid. You don’t really need it. Describe the cooling history of the rock (did it cool slowly, quickly, or both?) What is its composition? (felsic, intermediate, mafic) You must be able to identify 1 or more of the coarse grained minerals in the rock What texture does the rock display? (coarse, fine, porphyritic, pegmatitic, vesicular, glassy)
