John McCain on Sexual Health and Reproductive Rights John McCain, presidential hopeful for the upcoming 2008 election, is a registered republican who holds traditional beliefs characteristic of such party. He claims to an advocate for human rights, while at the same time paradoxically claiming to be pro-life. McCain alludes to his time serving our country and his experience as a prisoner of war, then saying that “I believe human rights also extend to that of the unborn” (John McCain on Abortion 1). McCain flip-flops on the proposed overturning of the historic Roe v. Wade decision of 1973. At one point, he says “I would not support repeal of Roe vs. Wade, which would then force women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangers operations,” but upon further investigation, one will find that McCain “has a 17-year voting record of supporting efforts to overturn Roe vs. Wade” (John McCain on Abortion 3).
