The implementation of curriculum 2013 : English LearningTeaching and Implementation Character in Teaching Learning‘Andina Yunianti’AbstrackCurriculum 2013 has been implemented in both primary and junior high schools in Indonesia.To do this, the teacher becomes the media that has a major role in carrying out this curriculum.Some basic aspects of this curriculum, such as: learning planning and teaching materials needmore attention in order to program well. In addition, teachers must be well informed about theseaspects, but the implementation of the 2013 curriculum in learning English is not yet perfect.This study aims to determine learning English and describe how teachers implement charactereducation in English. Discussing the character of students related to juvenile delinquency andmoral problems of the current generation of young people. Character development is currentlyvery much needed in the world of Indonesian education as a way to overcome these problemsbecause strengthening personal and social morality is one of the fundamental goals of life andmoral education is one of the important aspects of education. It The Ministry of Education(MOE) of the Republic of Indonesia is implementing a new curriculum named Curriculum 2013.One of the ultimate goals of this new one curriculum is to improve the morale and character ofstudents.Key words : Curriculum 2013, Implementation Character, English LearningINTRODUCTIONThe national curriculum in Indonesia has undergone several changes from year to year.She, of course, produced several shifts including educational content, learning process andassessment Retnawati et al 2016; Hadi 2016; and Nugraha 2016. Therefore, teachers as the keyin educating students, need to understand the new curriculum before implementing it and at thesame time improve its ability Muth'im (2014) to generate a fun and meaningful learningenvironment for students. Teachers must be able to know the content of the curriculum, the stageof activity planning, and assessment based on the curriculum focus, as well as some of thestandards in the syllabus of the Handler's curriculum (2010). Teachers should also be trained tolearn teaching skills and awareness of English curriculum policies and the importance of Rafiqueet al 2018; Sultans 2018; Ahmad and Imran 2018. This is necessary because the success of thenew curriculum implementation is determined by the readiness of teachers and optimalimplementation. Rumahlatu et al 2016; Huliselan and Takaria 2016.To improve the education system in Indonesia, the latest curriculum implemented is thecurriculum (K-13) which has been implemented since July 2013. K-13 is a change from the
previous curriculum, KTSP (school-level autonomy curriculum 2006). In KTSP, each school isgiven the freedom to design its curriculum, implement it, and evaluate it using local resources,broader socio-cultural dimensions, and student needs. On the other hand, K-13 aims to empowerIndonesian people to become religious and productive human beings, to become innovative andpassionate citizens. It emphasizes teacher-designed learning (taught curriculum) and learningexperiences (experienced curriculum) based on the socio-cultural background and abilities ofstudents Widodo (2016). and designed to meet the needs of the Tantric Age (2013).
