Emily Thurmaier English 150 Jessica Butterfield 13.Februar.2008 It can be trying to pick out pieces of art on a design college campus, especially when the buildings are works of art themselves. On the Iowa State campus there are not only beautiful buildings, but distinctive pieces of art as well. Some of these pieces are hidden in coves, placed in back corners of campus while others are adorning library walls and blatantly posted to be seen. The fiberglass statue, Border Crossing by Luis Jimenéz, is an intriguing sculpture placed openly for anyone passing to see on campus. Luis Jimenéz was born in 1940 to an illegal immigrant. His father crossed the Mexican border into Texas in 1924. Jimenéz was fortunate for a son of a working class immigrant, and attended the University of Texas in the early 1960’s ( www.museums.iastate.edu ). He was later employed at the University of Houston teaching art. Jimenéz created beautiful sculptures until the end of his 65 year old life in the summer of 2006
