Sound Perspective Emphasize direct sound (from the source, without reflections) – mic with shotgun mic or lavalier. . Taking into account reflected sound – record to achieve spatial awareness. It will yield three-dimensionality to a scene, greater naturalism Difficult since various surfaces at various distances from the subject reflect in different ways Hyper-real sound Deliberate exaggeration of certain sounds o To make it seem more realistic In a film story it is crucial that some sounds are closer than they ought to be Foley Artist – someone who specializes in recreating sounds for overdubbing in post-production… Usually sounds important to information conveyed by a scene: car doors slamming, keys turned in doors, phone numbers dialed… Sound motif o To associate a certain place or character with a sound, and in so doing to suggest some meaning to attach to it o Conveys ideas that help the plot, giving it extra depth o A more subtle, almost subconscious way of telling the audience something
