Homework #11Mariko Watanabe1.The authors of this article feel that the reasons for the ethical dilemma within our ownfood production system are firstly that society’s values are not immutable but changeover time. For example, being gay was something that used to be completelyunacceptable, however, now is much more accepted. Laws have been passed to evengive them the privilege of marriage. Secondly, new technologies have unexpectedconsequences. For example, in technology we have many machines that make thingsway less costly and much more efficient, but this results in a higher unemploymentbecause people are being replaced by these machines. Lastly, new ideas can and doenter our moral worlds. For example, a long time ago people valued the treatment ofthe animals they were eating because they were the ones raising them. Now, people donot seem to care what hormones are injected or their way of life, as long as it isconvenient for them.
