Daniels 1 H. Daniels Denvir 1B Revenge: A Theme in The Tempest In my English class, I read The Tempest , a play written by William Shakespeare in 1611. In this play, a man named Prospero, a former duke from Milan who was thrown from his country with his daughter Miranda, uses supernatural power to get his revenge on both his brother, who took his place as duke after he banished Prospero, and the King of Naples, who helped Antonio. After reading this play, I wrote a letter from Prospero’s point of view to his mother explaining how he had gotten revenge on them. After reading the play and writing the letter I found a common theme in the play, that even though revenge can be a good thing, forgiveness is just as important. Prospero expresses this in both his letter to his mother and the play itself. In the play, Prospero took revenge on both his brother Antonio and the King of Naples for banishing him and his daughter to an island after being forced out of his dukedom in Milan. After
