Ryan Bloms Chapter 4 Essay General Psychology September 30, 2007 Autism: Autism: is a brain development disorder characterized by impairments in social interaction and communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior, all exhibited before a child is three years old. As you may have read in my chapter one discussion board I myself have worked with a child, Daniel, who had autism. But there were some things that I didn’t know that I learned from the text and from a little research of my own. The main thing being that there is no cure. When I was working with Daniel, myself and the special education staff were working to try to help him and from what I could tell we were making progress. But I know now that that wasn’t the case. We were only temporarily fixing it. As soon as we stopped doing what we were doing he went right back to his own ways. And although there is no definite cure there are many treatments, many of which I found very interesting. Of course there is medicine, to control certain problems that go along with autism. But
