Ryan Bloms Chapter 3 Essay General Psychology September 29, 2007 Nature vs. Nurture Nature versus nurture, it is one of the great mysteries of the mind, and much research has focused on the relative role of genes and the environment in determining everything from athleticism to personality to a person's predisposition to obesity. I have always heard the phrase “Nature vs. Nurture” and never really knew which one was right. Are we the way we are today because of our genes or because of our surroundings? This is a question that has puzzled a lot of people, and I think that you have to look at each one, nature and nurture, separately in order to figure out which one it really is. Scientists have known for years that traits such as eye color and hair color are determined by specific genes encoded in each human cell. The Nature Theory takes things a step further to

Supporters of the nurture theory dont deny that genetic tendencies exist, they just feel that they dont matter. They believe that our behavioral aspects originate only from the environmental factors of our upbringing. So I guess you could say that it is all a matter of opinion, and maybe that is why I found this particular subject so interesting. That something as big as why we are the way we are doesnt have a definite answer. That no matter what science of people say, someone will always be there with a comeback as to why their theory is correct and the others isnt. And to me that is not unlike many things in life, all just a matter of opinion....
