Various communist groups censored a lot of printed matter including fiction, poetry, etc. This censorship especially irked Szymborska, specifically because her first book was supposed to be published in 1949, but could not be published because it did not meet the requirements set forth by the Communist committees. This resulted in Szymborska’s bias towards free speech and hatred towards censorship. In her poem An Opinion on the Question of Pornography she expresses a negative emotion towards censorship because it limits free speech and essentially creativity.
