Unformatted text preview: Forensic Entomology WHAT IS IT? Forensic entomology is the study of insects and other arthropods related to legal issues. It can be divided in three subfields: urban, stored-product and medicolegal. Urban Insects that affect man and his immediate environment. Area has both criminal and civil components Urban pests may feed on both the living and dead . Damages caused by their mandibles as they feed markings and wounds on the skin Stored-product Commonly found in food. Forensic entomologist may serve as an expert witness during both criminal and civil proceedings involving food contamination . Medicolegal Includes arthropod involvement in events such as murder, suicide, and rape, Also includes physical abuse and contraband trafficking. How do they determine the PMI?
